Devon, thank you for sharing this. It resonates very deeply with me, as does your evaluation of your relationship with this sport. I am very inspired by you. Your bravery, tenacity, commitment put an energy/vibration out in the world that in a very real way lifts many of us out here in the wilds of life. I'm here for it.

What’s lost is the genuine love for this sport! The genuine appreciation of the art of competition is lost when money enters the picture. The ironies of preaching, “ there’s enough for ALL of us at the table”, but when someone is not invited the door is closed.

Your words hit home. It took me back to being picked last in gym. Being made fun of for being different. Laughed at because I never fit in. With running, it didn't matter if I was weird or strange. Really? Aren't we all a little strange? I used to wear running skirts with knee high socks, funny shirts with odd slogans. Why? Possibly so I wouldn't be taken seriously as a runner. A defense so if I was terrible at it, no one could make fun of me since I already did that. But I found I'm not that bad at it. Running is something that I do alone most times. Only I can succeed at what I want to do. I don't need the approvals of others. However, I understand how even the slightest remark can take me back to those younger days. It can hurt. But those people who did or said things back then aren't going to win now. I won't let them. So are you. Stay strong. Keep grinding. Believe in yourself. Hugs!
