Thank you so much for sharing the recap. I understand your step back from social, but I was so excited to see this post! I love the way you write and break things down honestly. Can't wait to see your year unfold

Finally getting around to reading Substack posts that have been in my que for a while. OMG - I had no idea you were racing Tarawera, let alone having won, and 7th overall! Huge congrats :-) I haven't seen anything on the socials from race orgs, race directors, athlete influencers who follow you about this. Probably because I've reduced my time on the socials and missed some posts - ? I also haven't heard any mention of this awesome accomplishment from the pods I listen to. Again, I've cut back so maybe just missed something. Miss you on Instagram and YouTube but totally understand. Looks like you're sponsored by SOAR and PF. Yippee! Good luck with training and racing this year. Still trying to visit your bakery!

YES GIRL. What a hard, honest, objective look at what transpired & how you can respond & grow. Acceptance is so Zen. Go as a river. You don’t choose the car wash, or the mud bath, but you choose your response. My grandma always said shared joy is double joy & shared sorrow is half sorrow. And joy is never full until it’s expressed… but the flip side is true too- anger, shitty feelings aren’t full unless expressed. And maybe full expression of them isn’t the goal, maybe breathing through the waves & getting back to calm is the goal. What I’m getting at is that it was wisdom to be pragmatic & stick to logistics mid race, because processing it all in real time would be too much. Good on ya. Geez I’m glad I found you on here, this is exactly what I was looking for. I’ve been wanting to be more in touch with the incredible things you do, other than bake Salida’s finest breads & gf pumpkin muffins. My final comment is so cliche it makes my left eye twitch: the trail is like life & life is like the trail. Devon- this was your race & you freaking crushed through much adversity & swamp foot, but it’s also so relatable & metaphorical to my journey of late, and I’m sure many others. So thanks for processing & letting us read all this goodness. You’re a freaking rad human.

This makes me happy to hear how you did. I was also missing out on your posts. New Zealand in February is certainly unpredictable, eh? Glad you got to go, and CONGRATS!

True perseverance! Cool that you use PF&H, I am a big fan of their gels and electrolytes. Will you be at Leadville this summer? I'll be there for the marathon in June!

I will be there for the 100 but not the marathon. Come down and visit the bakery!

This is wonderful, thank you for sharing. It sounds like a serious mental game win in addition to the race win. Congrats on all fronts.

When I was tracking for the athletes in 100 miler when Tarawera was going on and your name popped up in the overall TOP-10 and you were the first female, it would have been around 50 KM mark, I was like heck yeah Devon Yanko is so back to racing and felt good that you are in a pretty good position in the front. You can't even imagine how good it feels to you winning 100 miles outside the country and that too in some harsh conditions. Great work Devon and congratulations to you and a huge shoutout to Jeana for being there to support & crew you. Onwards & upwards from here, keep believing in yourself. :) Remember Devon Yanko is the best human soul out there.

And these race reports are quite scarce, so keep them coming if you can. Dakota Jones, Ben Dhiman, Devon Yanko, Rod Farvard, Jeff Mogavero are just a few athletes who write in a detailed manner to get the insights how professionals prepare, run, tackle things while being highly competitive.
