Devon, I am so very sorry to hear that you are battling PMDD, and that it coincided with Leadville 100 on Saturday. I literally could not even imagine toeing a race that is so ridiculously difficult on the very best of days...I cannot imagine having the courage to attempt something so gut wrenchingly hard. Please know that you are a phenomenal inspiration, quite apart from your insane talent in running. You have led me to answers with trauma that I didn't even know I had questions about. You carry yourself so beautifully...with fierce vulnerability and such a nurturing and empathetic heart. I follow your career very closely, as you are a massive inspiration to me. Thank you for who you are, and for sharing your insights with all of us.
Thank you for talking about PMDD. I am so sorry this happened on race week. What absolute shit luck. The menstrual cycle is such a fascinating part of being a woman. Sometimes I want to start do some research on the winners of top races and see where they are in their cycle. Though some are on BC so that might skew the results, it would be interesting to see.
I hope you are feeling better now, at least with symptoms. <3
Thank you for describing and expressing what it feels like. I don't know you personally but I know you possess a lot of strength and determination and I feel them in your writing. Please know I'm rooting for you and that I wish for you to have the experiences you're looking for.
Take care. Whether you're on a trail or not, I still see you as a Badass Trailblazer.
I don’t know how PMDD feels while trying to run 100 miles, but I do know this feeling. This totally derailment of body and spirit. And the unfairness when it robs you of parts of yourself and the things you’re going for. When every step feels like a heavy hill. I feel it in my own body and I feel it in your words.
We got the honor of watching you jump in and pace at twin lakes last year. I wanted to tell you then that your authenticity inspires, that I read your words, but I observed your spirit instead.
So I’ll tell you now. That I’m rooting for you. And that you trying gives me the encouragement to keep doing the same.
And that you sharing the reality you experience gives me the encouragement to keep doing the same.
You were at the top of the sport and then you dealt with some rough cards in life.
When you are on the burner of putting up performances, you are in the limelight of everyone, you got called to every possible podcast and then all of a sudden you vanished but I highly look up to you as an athlete and moreover as a wonderful human being.
You just keep dealing with auto immune disease and now PMDD and one can't even fathom what kind of physical, mental & emotional turmoil you would have been gone through over the period of years. But here you are just keep chipping away in your life. I know it is really difficult to run 100 miles, you can't fake out for a couple of hours as it is quite a long way. Hope you can do good at the upcoming races you have signed up for. Looking forward to your races. Way to go and keep putting in the work, and also remember DEVON YANKO IS THE BEST HUMAN SOUL THERE.! <3
Will be rooting for you from India.
In the upcoming 100 milers, you will surely have multiple low patches but don't let the inner narrative of you didn't train hard in this training block, you didn't do enough vert let you hold back from digging deep. Because straight away this can seem to be the right reason and you can tell yourself that yeah it is okay to bail out. Remember DEVON YANKO HAS GOT THE DOG IN HER. And as Mark Twain said- It's not the size of a dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog. Will be rooting for you, Allez DEVON YANKO.! :)

Strength, courage, and grace. These are some of the words that define who you are in the world.
Write the book. 💕
